A blog of mystical searches.
From the most recent "Bad Reporter" comic in the San Francisco Chronicle:
It's so interesting being on "this side" of Romney's run for election. I've lived in Utah pretty much my whole life and most my family is LDS, so it's surreal to see and hear things on the news (with regards to Romney) that I've taken for granted all my life.I think Mormon doctrine is rather strange now, but it didn't seem so for most my life. I was never LDS, but the doctrines were such pervasive background noise they seemed normal to me and I thought all Christians believed the same things the LDS do. I hadn't even heard of the doctrine of the trinity until I was 21.I think Mormon beliefs sound as strange to "Christian" ears as Christian beliefs sound to Muslim or Buddhist ears. That "news" article is a hoot. :)
I think Mormon beliefs sound as strange to "Christian" ears as Christian beliefs sound to Muslim or Buddhist ears.Kay, I'm sure you're right about that. I would bet that the doctrine of the Trinity sounds pretty bizarre to most Jews and Moslems, although Jews growing up in Christian culture probably see its theology as what you called "background noise" so perhaps they are used to it.
