I am just a lowly lay person who reads a lot of theological books.

Thanks for your perspective on the UCC history. I like what you say about the Word of God and about us separating our experience from that of the divine.Mystical Seekerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10828225180668865911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29128991.post-1170195636310904292007-01-30T14:27:00.000-08:002007-01-30T14:27:00.000-08:00Sorry about repeating myself...blogger was having ...Sorry about repeating myself...blogger was having difficulty.Cynthiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16189485834914559162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29128991.post-1170195502871536322007-01-30T14:24:00.000-08:002007-01-30T14:24:00.000-08:00Sorry about repeating myself...blogger was having ...Sorry about repeating myself...blogger was having difficulty.Cynthiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16189485834914559162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29128991.post-1170195438045862482007-01-30T14:23:00.000-08:002007-01-30T14:23:00.000-08:00Sorry about repeating myself...blogger was having ...Sorry about repeating myself...blogger was having difficulty.Cynthiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16189485834914559162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29128991.post-1170195377741150612007-01-30T14:22:00.000-08:002007-01-30T14:22:00.000-08:00Sorry about repeating myself...blogger was having ...Sorry about repeating myself...blogger was having difficulty.Cynthiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16189485834914559162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29128991.post-1170194684674631742007-01-30T14:11:00.000-08:002007-01-30T14:11:00.000-08:00One of the historic sayings of our Congregational ...One of the historic sayings of our Congregational ancestors that is popular in the UCC currently is from Pastor John Robinson who said, when sending the pilgrims on their way to the New World, that "there is yet more light and truth to break forth from God's holy Word."

When I hear the phrase "Word of God", I think of humanity's experience of God, the Spirit embodied in human life, albeit imperfectly and sometimes warped beyond recognition. I believe this happens when we separate our experience from that of the divine, when it is the divine that is experiencing itself through all life. We have made Jesus so unique so as to remove him from the mundane, the great and wonderful smallness of being human.

It does feel like being on the fringe, or as Jack Spong puts it, in exile. Unfortunately, institutions are partly in the business of staying in business and so do not evolve as much as some of its participants. Communion of like minds and hearts is important. Glad to have found a kindred spirit.

Have you studied at a seminary or theological school?

P.S.
